About you

In the same way that not all school teachers are passionate about teaching vulnerable teenagers with complex social, emotional and mental health needs who are involved in serious violent crimes - not all Pilates teachers are passionate about using Pilates to help people prevent, manage or counteract the effects of injuries and pathologies.  Thankfully for you, I am!

I help people with injuries and pathologies progress from a place of frustration and pain to a place of increased confidence, strength, mobility and balance using personalised Pilates that meets them where they’re at and supports them to move efficiently and exceed that which they thought possible.

Maybe you have osteoporosis and need support with spine extension exercises to strengthen your muscles and prevent fractures.  Maybe you’ve had a hip replacement and need support with controlled leg slides and lifts to strengthen the hip musculature.  Maybe you have a knee pathology and need support using small equipment to strengthen the outer and inner legs.  Maybe you’ve got a disc bulge - (join the painful club!) - and need support with awareness of neutral spine and proper core activation.  Whatever your injury or pathology, please don’t wait any longer to invest in your mental or physical health; get in touch.

If you want any information, just ask.  I love learning and I love teaching and if I can help, I will.

Equally, if you want me to work with you to put a plan in place and turn information into actions that will help you achieve goals, book a call so we can talk.

NB: In the interests of honesty and of not wanting to waste anyone’s time - the kind of progress I’m passionate about for people with injuries and pathologies is possible in a private or semi-private session where we can work on the problem, rather than work around it or avoid it.  With focus and precision, I can choose personalised movements for you that will help you find, engage and work the muscles you need to develop and ensure you’re not triggering compensatory patterns.  That said, private sessions aren’t for everyone and if it’s group classes you’re interested in, there is still so much to be gained away from your injury or pathology; we can work around it and I’ll make it clear what you need to avoid.

I often get asked, “Do you only teach people with injuries and pathologies?”  Not at all, I get really excited about teaching a real mixture of people:

  • Absolute beginners. What’s not to love about introducing the bodies and minds of a class of different ages, genders, shapes and lifestyles to the positive impacts of Pilates and helping them to feel the benefits of moving efficiently?

  • Fit and active people. Why wouldn’t I want to teach dynamic classes that are more of an athletic workout to fit and active people who can gain all of the benefits of the Pilates principles combined with advanced Pilates movements?

  • Golfers. Golf requires skill, power, finesse, and body awareness.  Poor core strength, lack of flexibility and restrictions in rotation can drag down a game. How could I not enjoy helping golfers to lower their handicap, hit the ball further, improve their accuracy or maybe just play a round of golf without pain?

  • People who drink pints. As much as I love a pint - and I really do - I’ve set up ‘Pilates and a Pint’ to bring people together. A huge thing for me as a Pilates teacher - that goes beyond supporting people to better connect with their own body - is the importance of social connection and community.
